Mission and Outreach at First Congregational

Reaching out and serving beyond our local community, fellowship among members, opportunity for youth to practice Christian service and learn new skills... these are just a few of the many reasons we LOVE Mission work! Members, friends, and their friends are welcome to join us.

2015 Mission Week: July 13 - 18 in Detroit and Chelsea, Michigan

The week of July 13th through the 17th, we hope to have opportunities to serve locally right here in the Chelsea area through FCC, as well as through Faith In Action. Final details have not been worked out, but we hope to have more information in the next couple of weeks. We will need to know ahead of time for the Chelsea projects which days people are available before we begin to set up the project days, so please contact Wendy Beaumont, Jane Shrosbree, Deb Borders as soon as possible with dates that you would be available to serve locally.

July 16, 17, and 18, we’ll have an opportunity to support the 2015 ELCA Youth Gathering, bringing 30,000 young people to Detroit, by serving as Site Captains in Detroit neighborhoods. Click here for the Job Description sheet for the Site Captain positions, which we are volunteering to help fill. The orientation dates for volunteers serving as Site Captains are June 13th and 20th in Detroit. The deadline for registering is June 15th, so if you are interested in serving in Detroit, please contact Deb Borders or Lisa Jeffreys as soon as possible.

2014 Mission Week: July 14-18 Chelsea, Michigan

"God's work, our hands" was the theme as we helped refurbish/maintain/beautify several homes and yards of senior church members in our own community. We also worked on painting and drywalling the downstairs Sunday School room and hosted a yard sale on Thursday and Friday. Photos can be seen on Teresa's photo album. 2013 Mission Trip: June 23 - 29 Middleburgh, New York

We just returned from another week with our friends in Middleburgh, New York and experienced how "God is Still Speaking" in many powerful ways. Carol Coltrain and Jack Hill have created a model for community restoration and continue organizing work crews for the areas surrounding Middleburgh which were also flooded in August 2011. Photos can be seen on Teresa's photo album. (contact the church for password).

Our newest friends - 5 members of a Methodist Church about a hour away from Middleburgh joined us for the week - Fern, Alyssa, Linda, Ed and Doug. It has been good sharing our meals, devotions, sleeping quarters and work sites with them - nice people!
